Safety Assembly

SAFETY ASSEMBLY

On Friday 4th November 2016, children from Reception up to Year Four had a special safety assembly.

Firstly, the children were asked about firework safety. Here are some of the rules the children suggested:

  • Don’t get too close to fireworks
  • Only hold sparklers when you are with adults
  • Don’t stand near bonfires
  • Stay with the adults at all times when going to a fireworks display

We then asked the children how they could stay safe when out and about. Here are some of their ideas:

  • When crossing the road, look both ways
  • Find a safe place to cross
  • Press the button and wait for the green man
  • Use footbridges to cross railways, never the tracks
  • Don’t play near train tracks
  • Never cross the road near cars
  • At zebra crossings, wait until the cars have stopped before stepping out

Finally, the children were asked if they felt safe in school and if so, how they knew they were safe. The children were very keen to tell us that they felt safe, and gave reasons why. These included:

  • We know the teachers wouldn’t let strangers into school
  • When we go to church there are lots of adults helping us to cross safely
  • When people come in to do special assemblies, Mrs Richardson has checked first to see if they are OK to be in our school
  • We feel safe because of the three whistle system
  • Our friends look after us and nobody is left on their own
  • We have fire practices so we know what to do in a real fire
  • We are taught not to talk to strangers on the computers
  • The teachers only let us use safe web sites
  • Mr Mitchell locks the doors and the gates

We ended the assembly with a prayer for everyone who keeps us safe in school.
