At Rainford CE, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils receive a full-time education that maximises opportunities for everyone to reach their full potential. Regular attendance is essential for academic achievement, personal development, wellbeing, and the formation of positive lifelong habits.
The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on children's education and attendance patterns. Whilst schools have long since returned to normal routines, we recognise that the disruption experienced during this period highlighted the importance of regular school attendance and the need to support children in developing positive attendance habits.
We often find that children whose attendance falls below 96% can find it more difficult to keep up with lessons and learning sequences. Learning is carefully planned and builds over time, so even occasional absences can create gaps in understanding that may affect future progress. Missing school can also impact friendships, confidence and a child's sense of belonging, making it harder to return to regular attendance.
Good attendance is an important life skill. From an early age, children learn the value of commitment, responsibility and reliability—qualities that will support them throughout their education and future working lives. By working together with families, we aim to ensure that all children develop the habits needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
We celebrate and encourage good attendance in a variety of ways:
Weekly dance celebration in assembly for the class with the highest attendance, along with an extra five minutes of playtime.
Termly attendance recognition letters sent home.
Certificates and rewards for children whose attendance improves.
