We believe that children benefit greatly from involvement in, and access to, activities in addition to formal teaching activities.
Extracurricular activities vary according to the time of year but usually include various sports, dancing, choir and eco club. Most activities take place after school, although some can be held during lunchtimes. Many activities are free of charge, although some, usually run by outside agencies, charge a fee. Parental agreement must be obtained prior to any child attending any activities.
Our Young Leaders Club is run by Mrs McVey for KS2 pupils, with the opportunity to earn an award as a leader of the future! There is no cost to AYLA Club, but there are limited spaces. Contact the office for more information.
Our choir is run by Miss Jaeger and offered to all our KS2 pupils. It is a wonderful way to bring together children from different year groups and with differing interests. This helps our children form new friendship groups. The choir famously perform at Rainford's Christmas Fair; Education Sunday at Church; Young Voices at Manchester and many more events. There is no cost to attend choice once a week after school.
Our sports clubs run all year and are offered from Reception to Year 6. These clubs are led by sports specialists from Full of Beans Ltd. Each term, a new sport is offered to each year group, from dance to football, dodgeball to golf! There is something for everyone!
Our netball team has been running for many years now. This extracurricular is led by Anne Christian, a professional netball coach. Junior girls and boys can come along on Wednesdays after school to learn the competitive sport. This again is free of charge.
Weekly in-school band lessons that celebrate fun, individuality and creativity! Rocksteady’s inclusive approach helps children find a sense of belonging through new friendships and a shared love for music, whilst boosting social skills, wellbeing and confidence. The experience is provided by an outside company and has a cost. This is paid directly to them and not through school.
Mrs Shawcross's homework club is renowned for its cosy, fun-filled learning environment (as well as the chocolate biscuits she provides each week!) and is offered to all KS2 pupils free of charge.
Football is very popular with many boys and girls. We are currently planning a regular training session after school for our KS2 football teams. Here they will learn about team work and good sportsmanship, and help keep fit and active. Many children play for football teams at weekends, but some don’t. This gives all our children the chance to play the sport and also represent the school in games.
