At Rainford CE Primary, we are excited to introduce Opening Worlds, a knowledge-rich curriculum designed to deepen pupils’ understanding of history and geography through carefully sequenced content and vocabulary development. Opening Worlds is built on the principle that a strong foundation of subject knowledge empowers children to think critically, make connections, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

The programme uses high-quality texts, explicit vocabulary teaching, and structured lessons to build pupils’ cultural capital and confidence in discussing complex ideas. It supports progression by revisiting key concepts over time, helping pupils to retain and apply what they’ve learned.

We have launched Opening Worlds in Years 3 and 4 this academic year, and will continue to roll it out across Key Stage 2 year by year. By 2027/2028, all KS2 classes will be fully engaged with the Opening Worlds curriculum, ensuring consistency and depth in our humanities teaching.

This initiative reflects our commitment to delivering a broad and ambitious curriculum that prepares pupils to flourish academically and spiritually, in line with our Christian values and vision for lifelong learning.
