Bogey Battenberg Competion entry-'Phoebe's Story'

Lesson: English

WELL DONE PHOEBE FOR YOUR GREAT ENTRY TO 500 WORDS COMPETITION

Bogey Battenberg

Penelope and Peter Peaker were not happy, not happy at all. All due to having to go for lunch at Squire Bogeynose’s grand mansion. Mr and Mrs Peaker, on the other hand, were utterly delighted, quite an honour, such a privilege they kept muttering, much to the disgust of Penelope and Peter. What a waste of a Saturday, a real bummer thought Peter.

The reason for such a luncheon invite was all due to Wagglesford’s ‘Bake Off’, the fault of the success of Mary and Paul’s ‘Bake Off’ on TV. This was all decided when the series began, exciting Squire Bogeynose, who, after the untimely death of his wife Flora, found baking. He baked scones, vanilla slices, custards, jam tarts and his favourite above all else, battenberg. Those wonderful colours, the variety of taste but unfortunately he couldn’t get the right balance between yellow and pink cake. That’s where Mrs Peaker, in particular, came in. She was a wiz with baking battenberg and Squire Bogeynose needed help in preparation for entering Wagglesford’s competition next Saturday.

Peter and Penelope, after lunch, were allowed to wander and explore outside whilst mum gave the Squire a few handy tips in the kitchen. A plot began to form in their minds concerning the filling for such a beautiful battenberg. It was such a shame that both of them were coming to the end of particularly nasty, disgusting coughs and colds.

The week passed with school assessments and the dreaded weekly visit by Aunty Annie, her of the old lady beard. The only other difference was that Peter accompanied his mum to Squire Bogeynose’s on Thursday evening to finalise some last minute details regarding the favoured battenberg. Whilst mum and the Squire consulted a web page devoted to battenberg and other coloured confectionery, Peter got to work taking out a large hanky, a screwdriver and an icing bag.

When mum and the Squire had finished making their cake Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and The Queen came to judge the cake competition. When the judges started to eat the cake they tasted the cake which tasted like bogies! Somebody was to blame and it wasn’t Squire Bogeynose!

When the competition had finished the children and Mr and Mrs Peaker went back home to relax. Suddenly the children realised that they had left their I Pad at Bogeynose’s mansion but unfortunately Peter and Penelope had to get it themselves.

When they sneakily snook into the mansion Squire Bogeynose saw them then stopped them and said,” Why did you spoil my cake I came last because of you rapscallions.”

Then the children replied,’’ How did you know it was us?’’

‘’Well who else was sniggering and poking their noses when my cake was cut” boomed Squire Bogneynose. “yes you two, caught red handed”

“So because you punished me I am going to punish you by making you eat my Bogey Battenberg Cake mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds delicious eh.’’

‘’Yes very delicious’’ cried the children.
